Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
This comprehensive program is designed to prepare the student to take the Certified Professional Coder exam by the American Academy of Professional Coders. Upon successful completion of this program the student will have a working knowledge of coding rules and regulations, the ability to translate medical diagnoses and procedures into numerical codes for billing to the insurance companies, and understanding of surgery coding guidelines and federal and payer coding concepts.
Those applicants who are successful in passing the certification examination, but have not met the required "coding work experience", will be awarded the initial designation of "CPC-A" (Apprentice). Successful completion of our program will be credited as one year of the experience requirement

Course Description
Medical Terminology
This course is an introduction and overview of medical language, with emphasis on basic, essential terminology.

Human Anatomy
This is a basic course on the structure and function of the skeletal, muscular, nervous, digestive, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, urinary, endocrine and reproductive systems.

Medical Coding
The AAPC's Professional Medical Coding Curriculum is developed to capsulate the latest information related to medical or insurance reimbursement. As a student you will learn the theory of coding, gain an understanding of the coding fundamentals and then incorporate this learning by using the lab book to work coding reports. Students of the PMCC medical coding classes should be sufficiently prepared to take their certification examination to become a Certified Profession Coder™ (CPC™).

Chapter 14 - An overview of the ICD-9-CM
Chapter 15 - Using the ICD-9-CM
Chapter 16 - Third Party Reimbursement Issues

Medical Billing

You will learn the basics of submitting and following up on claims for reimbursement and the appeal process. You will also learn the importance of patient registration, insurance verification, and collection of copays, deductibles and co-insurances.
